OH, JOHNNY!

Have you ever realized that he wears eyeliner like, almost all the time? Yeah, you might have. But does that bother you? No. Because, you know, it's Johnny Depp.

When I read a magazine a couple hours ago with a photo of him all over the page, I took a closer look to figure out what it is that is so inspiring about him. I have to commit that all I found out was the eyeliner, but it's still not possible to say what really makes this man. Just let sink in that he turned 50 a few weeks ago!
With most of the actors, there's this tiny little problem called sex-appeal. Well, at this point I won't say Johnny Depp doesn't have one, or that it ever faded. But somehow, Johnny Depp is comparable to all these über-actors like Brad Pitt, bruce Willis & Co (I actually wanted to say George Clooney, but that is another level of looking handsome). It's like they secretly attended a club in which they promise to stay unapproachable and normal at the same time.
Johnny Depp starred so many movies, it seems like he has done more than a lot of other actors. That's probably wrong, but the point is that his characters never stay the same. Every time we went to the cinema once again, when we were impressed by a Willy Wonka or a Jack Sparrow once again, we think that that must have been it. Can there be any more characters to play that differ from his former ones? Obviously, there are. I haven't been to the cinema yet to watch 'Lone Ranger' but I'm sure I will soon.
Not my picture.

WHY WE'RE DONE WITH CASTING SHOWS

And the other crap tv channels want us to see.

So in Germany, we had the 'Germany's next top model' season finale last Saturday. And, the German version of 'dancing with the stars' called 'lets dance' also ended this week. And now? Do we feel empty? Or like somebody took the sense of our life? No. We're happy that nothing forces us to spend our time in front of our tv anymore.

Times have changed in terms of casting shows and these ones where the audience has to vote. We're all tired of hearing 'When you want to see candidate X next week singing blabla, please call number xxx'. But why? Of course, with time everything becomes boring, and in times where we have a lot of bad actors in bad written pseudo-real-life documentations, we want something sophisticated that we're actually interested in. But do we get it? No.
Not everyone wants to see survivors in the desert. Or conservationists who travel to Norway for the 2745th time only to watch bears killing fish. Of course, this might be interesting. But not if you're ill and want to be entertained all day; or on an evening you want to relax on and expect something minimally cultural, exciting or interesting.
And I guess that's what makes new stuff more successful.
There's a lot of new ideas on German television; but its sad that it's badly translated into action.  Of course there are innovative ideas for the younger generations, you can watch Joko & Klaas weekly doing shit. And that's just one example. But if we're honest we have to commit that this is no educational show, it's entertainment.
For a couple of people this might be enough and I have to say that I enjoy this show too, but it's not enough to keep society cultured and educated, is it? TV channels haven't understand yet that they play a huge part in society's education. Let's hope they will! Maybe that would be our chance to have some entertaining and sometimes even sophisticated TV shows in our prime time evenings.

THINGS TO DO BEFORE I DIE

Well, I guess we all have those lists.

I honestly never really thought about such things but when the topic came up yesterday when I had coffe with friends, we talked about it for a while. Back home I thought about it myself and discovered that there are actually 3 things I've been deeply wanting for a few years now and that I would always say yes to. The other things are also important to me and I would really fancy experiencing them, but do you guys know the feeling of a little tension and pleasure about something that hasn't happened yet? Probably not, I guess I'm the only one with such weird feelings haha, let's go.

my top 3:
  • Live in a lot of different countries when I finished studying
At this point it's not about the countries, it's about the cities. I adored Barcelona from the first time, as you might know from this post. And I would always return if I had the chance, though I don't speak the language. But it has this atmosphere and radiates freedom and a lifestyle I would love to experience.

  • Work as a freelancer in a club hotel
My skills might not be good enough for working as a snowbard guide but I definetely want to stay in a club hotel for a couple of weeks/month. I know you don't earn much, but everyone who did this is telling me it's definetely worth it. I love the atmosphere in such hotels and let's be honest, they are in the most wonderful places you can imagine.
I guess what's really fascinating me is that you get to know new people almost every week. You stay with the guests, often eat with them and have colleagues around you that think the same way you do.

  • Saying yesfor a while
This must be a wonderful time full of experiences. I think you gain a lot of courage when you just say yes to everything. - Wanna watch this movie with me? Of course. - Have you ever been to that Place? No but I'd like to discover it!

I'll continue this list as soon as I got time and new ideas for it :)  -
